Box Out Bullying
In conjunction with its character education program, the Shared Decision Making Committee at Great Neck Road Elementary School introduced a new anti-bullying program initiative entitled, “Box Out Bullying.”
In the beginning of the school year, members of the SDM committee met with each student in the school to discuss positive behavior and establish individual goals. To remind students of the rules and reinforce good behavior and habits, the Box Out Bullying program was implemented over the course of two days. On Feb. 11, students listened to a read aloud that promoted anti-bullying and received a visit from Principal Karla Cangelosi who discussed ways to demonstrate positive behavior and make good choices.
The following day, students, faculty and staff wore the color purple in support of the program and participated in an assembly. During the PTA-sponsored event, students learned about how to be R.E.A.L., an acronym for respect, education, acceptance, and leadership.
